Like everything else about it, this region has distinct species of flora and fauna. Most of them are endangered or rare. For instance, the wild yak is only found here and the Snow Leopard is one of the rare species found here. Other animals you will see here include the ibex, musk deer, stone martens, red foxes, blue sheep, bharal, docile marmot and mouse hare. However, but the habitats of the nyan (big horned sheep), chim (Tibetan antelope famed for its fleece), goa (Tibetan gazelle), lynx, pallas cat, kyamg (wild horse) and brong dong (wild yak) still remain beyond a tourist’s limit.
Several birds - the black-necked crane, bar-headed geese, ducks - breed near the lakes. You will also spot the bactrian magpies, grey tits, chough, raven, sparrow, kite, kestrel, Turkoman rock pigeon, chukor, finches, buntings, larks, desert wheateaters, amongst varieties of birds.
